6. December 2013. Scientific Visit at the HAEA from 25 to 29 November
Scientific Visit was held from 25 to 29 November under the „Strengthening the Effectiveness of Nuclear and Radiation Safety Regulatory Authority by Increasing the Efficiency for Qualification of Specialists and Experts” IAEA project, at the HAEA’s Headquarters. The representatives of the Department for Nuclear and Radiation Safety (Gosatomnadzor) Ministry of Emergencies of the Republic of Belarus received information on the role of HAEA related to licensing, inspections, review and assessment in the fields of physical protection, safeguards and nuclear safety.
22. November 2013. “Bab Al Maghrib” Emergency Exercise Concludes after 26 hours
Over the past two days the tension was high in emergency operations centres in around 60 States and 10 international organizations participating in the “Bab Al Maghrib” exercise to test their response to simulated dirty bomb attacks. The simulated “explosions” took place in the port of Tangier Med and Marrakech medina in Morocco. They ‘triggered’ a number of serious implications: “actual” for few States, “potential” for some and “perceived” for many. Issues addressed during the exercise were connected to a radioactive release into the atmosphere, medical response and public health, security, transparent public communications, industry and tourism and commerce, in particular import and export of goods.
16. September 2013. Meeting on upgrades of the physical protection system of the radioactive sources
A meeting on the project of upgrades of the physical protection system of the radioactive sources was held on 12 September, 2013, initiated by the U.S. government. Since 2009 developments have been implemented by the U.S. Department of Energy in the frame of the Global Threat Reduction Initiative (GTRI) in Hungary.
16. August 2013. Chinese delegation visits HAEA
Chinese delegation paid a visit on 16 August 2013 to Mr Kristóf Horváth, Deputy Director General of the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority. Mr Wang Jun, Secretary General of the State Nuclear Security Technology Center mentioned: international awareness has been raised because of the successful IPPAS mission of Hungary. The Secretary General took the advantage of the meeting to congratulate for the good results.
10. June 2013. Mr Gyula Fichtinger is the Director General of the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority
Mr Pál Kovács, the Minister of State for Climate Change and Energy on June 10th 2013 announced that the Prime Minister Mr Viktor Orbán appointed Mr Gyula Fichtinger, the former Deputy Director General of HAEA as the Director General of the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority.

23. April 2013. The HAEA delivered the IPPAS Advance Information Package to the IAEA
At the request of the Government of Hungary (received from the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority - HAEA by the International Atomic Energy Agency - IAEA on 20 June 2012), the IAEA agreed to conduct an IPPAS mission to Hungary in May - June 2013. Initial discussions were held in September 2012, during which general issues related to the conduct of the mission were discussed. In order to continue preparation for the mission, formal preparatory meeting was convened at HAEA from 22 to 23 January 2013.

After the Fukushima accident, the Council of the European Union decided to carry out a comprehensive safety reassessment of the NPPs in its member states. The official remark for the so-called “stress test” is “Targeted Safety Reassessment”.
19. December 2012. Lifetime extension licensing process of MVM Paks Nuclear Power Plant
After having performed complex technical and economical analysis, MVM Paks Nuclear Power Plant Plc. decided to start the lifetime extension licensing process. The programme of the process, after having been approved by the authority, have been executed under authority surveillance.
