The Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority (HAEA), in cooperation with the US Department of Energy, organized a workshop on the protection of programmable systems between September 9 and 11, 2025, which was hosted by the HAEA. The event provided an opportunity for Hungarian experts to expand their knowledge and develop their skills in the field of nuclear security cyber defense.
During the three days of the workshop, experts from the HAEA and Hungarian nuclear facilities and radioactive waste storage facilities took part in training sessions led by American instructors. The lectures and exercises covered topics such as self-assessment methods, the structure of cyber defense for nuclear power plants and physical protection systems, and the protection of programmable systems used by companies in the supply chain.
The HAEA will continue to hold similar training courses and events for Hungarian professionals in cooperation with its American counterpart, thereby supporting the development of nuclear safety in Hungary.
