As part of a program at the Ludovika University of Public Service, an Uzbek delegation visited the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority (HAEA) on 25 September 2025 to learn about its supervisory role and experiences. The delegation consisted of senior experts from the Uzbek Parliament, the Uzbek Ministry of Energy, and Uzbek energy market and research institutions. Representatives familiarized themselves with the regulatory responsibilities of the HAEA, in particular the licensing process for new nuclear power plant units, as well as the Hungarian regulations on physical protection and the safeguards system.
In their presentation the representatives of the HAEA provided a comprehensive overview of the activities of the HAEA, in particular about the national regulatory framework, Hungarian nuclear facilities and radioactive waste management facilities, and their regulatory supervision. The Uzbek delegation was also informed about the preparatory activities related to the construction of new nuclear power plant units, the related tasks of the authority, and the physical protection and safeguards regulatory system. At the meeting, the Uzbek side presented their country's energy infrastructure development plans, a key element of which is the construction of new nuclear power plants.
