At the International Conference and Seminar held in Xiamen, China from 3 to 4 December 2024, Andrea Beatrix Kádár, President of the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority (HAEA), gave a presentation on dealing with the challenges facing the authorities regarding the lifetime extension of nuclear power plants with extended operating times and the implementing of new nuclear facilities, followed by a panel discussion with the Canadian, French, Spanish and Chinese authorities and the OECD NEA representative. In her presentation, the president of HAEA provided information on the steps taken in the recent period regarding the modernization of the the HAEA’s regulatory oversight system.
At the event organised by National Nuclear Safety Administration of China and the OECD NEA participants reviewed means to effectively address the safety challenges, effective means of promoting communication and trust between the public and the nuclear industry and the challenges of long-term operation of nuclear power plants. As part of the program, the participants visited the Zhangzhou nuclear power plant of which the first unit is scheduled to be commissioned in November 2024 while three additional units of the power plant are still under construction.
